Sian Owen, PhD

Research Fellow in Biomedical Informatics
Mentor: Michael Baym, PhD

Sian Owen completed her PhD and a short postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Liverpool, UK, in the group of Professor Jay Hinton. Owen's research explored the biological contribution of temperate bacteriophages to an emerging variant of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimuriumthat is associated with an epidemic of bloodstream infections in sub-Saharan Africa. She is currently working in the Baym Lab in the Department of Biomedical Informatics and the Laboratory of Systems Pharmacology using experimental evolution and computational approaches to study the phenomenon of antibiotic resistance in bacteria.
