Job-Specific
Responsibilities

The Sync for Science (S4S - http://syncfor.science/) team at Harvard Medical School’s Department of Biomedical Informatics is seeking an experienced software developer to help build open-source tools that enable individuals to easily access and share their own electronic health records. Supporting a consumer's right to access clinical data with standards-based APIs, S4S facilitates an ecosystem where individuals manage their own health care data and, when desired, share these data with healthcare providers and researchers.

The S4S team supports research studies including the All of Us Research Program(AoU). AoU aims to make medicine more precise by incorporating data on an individual’s environmental exposures, lifestyle, genetics and more into the healthcare process. With a goal of enlisting over 1 million participants, the project aims to establish a much more accurate and detailed view of the ranges of human health.

The Department of Biomedical Informatics is a leading hub for computational biology, translational bioinformatics, and precision medicine. Based in the Harvard Medical School Longwood Campus, the Sync for Science program is part of a vibrant community of scientists, physicians, and engineers whose goal is to advance the boundaries of knowledge. The working environment combines the best features of a startup (fast pace, flexibility, flat hierarchies) with those of one of the leading medical schools (excellent benefits, outstanding opportunities for learning, great resources, name recognition).

The developer will use several standards in the healthcare IT and research industry including the SMART platform and the FHIR protocol in support of these projects. We code primarily in Python and Javascript, but we contribute to broader open-source efforts in diverse languages including Java and Ruby.

SMART incorporates OAuth2 and related technologies to add security to apps dealing with health information. https://smarthealthit.org/
