Master of Medical Sciences in Biomedical Informatics Degree Program

The Master of Medical Sciences in Biomedical Informatics (MMSc-BMI) program will train students to become contributors to the rapidly evolving use of biomedical data for revolutionary advances in scientific inquiry and technological development. This program is created for students who are looking to develop skills in data science in the context of medicine and biological science to improve human health. Through a rigorous combination of core coursework and a year-long full-time thesis research project, our students will graduate with the computational, methodological, and data science skills to contribute to an ongoing revolution in biomedical discovery.

The application for Fall 2025 admission will open October 2, 2024. All applications will be due on January 8, 2025.

Application decisions are sent in early March 2025. There is no rolling admission.

The Biomedical Informatics Inclusive, Diverse and Equitable Communities Success (INDECS) Scholarship covers tuition and mandatory fees for the typical duration of the program (4 semesters) while the student is making satisfactory academic progress. Eligible candidates are accepted students in the MMSc in Biomedical Informatics program who are U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents, demonstrate financial need via FAFSA submission, and are committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion for underserved populations as demonstrated through their past or current research experiences and/or extracurricular activities.

The Master’s Research Thesis provides students with the opportunity to commit a year to full-time research in the lab of their faculty research advisor. Students select their research advisor in consultation with the program, design a proposal, and conduct their research with regular milestones and check-ins with a thesis committee. At the end of the second year in the program, students defend their thesis work to their committee, program, and peers.
