Precision Medicine 2020:
When you seek treatment for a medical disorder and visit a doctor, if she decides to treat you with a medication, the number of options she has may number 5, 10 maybe even 20. It’s already proving difficult to determine which one of those 5 or 20 are best and when to give them. But what if we had literally thousands of different therapies to choose from—therapies that were specifically engineered for your disorder? This challenge is exactly what Mila, the daughter of our keynote speaker, faced with her very rare disease. During the first three quarters of our annual conference, we will explore the clinical, regulatory and logistic implications of these hyperindividualized therapies made possible by the genomic revolution. To wrap up the day, we will discuss how the whole precision medicine armamentarium has been useful or not in addressing the health needs presented by the coronavirus pandemic.
