CHAKRABARTI: [T]rying to balance the individual freedoms that are so important to Americans, with the necessity of collective action around pandemics, my question is, and I'll start with you Dr. Høeg. Will lockdowns ever be a viable tool for pandemic control in the United States again?
HØEG: So we don't have good evidence that the lockdowns worked for COVID-19. And there was a recent paper that came out in [Science] Advances by Eran Bendavid and Chirag Patel that looks at that. And I think that people need to understand that lockdowns were never part of the normal public health response to a pandemic.
