Alba Gutierrez, PhD

Instructor in Biomedical Informatics, Harvard Medical School

Alba Gutierrez received her Ph.D. in Biomedicine at Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona). As a bioinformatician with a specific interest in biomedical research, Gutierrez's doctoral research has focused on the development of bioinformatic approaches to analyze disease comorbidities. First, she focused on the development of tools for comorbidity identification based on the exploitation of clinical data from patient record databases. After that, she started to analyze comorbidities from the genomic point of view, developing a gene-disease association database, PsyGeNET, that allows the analysis of psychiatric disorder comorbidities. At the same time, she has also been involved in a challenging and exciting project, being part of a new bioinformatics company, Biocloud, as one of its co-founders. Since coming to DBMI, her research has focused on the analysis of autism comorbidities and developing R software for data analysis.
