Machine Learning Engineer

Jane Adams received her PhD and Master's degree in Computer Science from Northeastern University, following a BFA in Graphic Design & Digital Media and an MFA in Emergent Media from Champlain College. During her doctoral studies, her research focused on engineering visual analytics systems for high-dimensional data, with applications spanning systems genetics and immunology. Throughout her academic and professional career, Jane has engaged in interdisciplinary research, data science, and software engineering collaborations with a diverse range of organizations, including The Jackson Laboratory, Agilent Technologies, Ozette Technologies, Sony Computer Science Laboratories, and Flagship Pioneering.

At the Core for Computational Biomedicine (CCB) within the Department of Biomedical Informatics, Jane leads the development, implementation, and optimization of medical large language models (LLMs) tailored for medical research and clinical decision support. She designs and scales these AI systems using high-performance computing (HPC) and advanced GPU infrastructure, with a particular focus on secure, on-premises computing environments to safeguard sensitive patient data and PII. Collaborating closely with interdisciplinary teams of biologists, clinicians, and data scientists, Jane builds robust data infrastructures and machine learning pipelines that translate complex, domain-specific requirements into state-of-the-art computational solutions. Her work aims to harness the power of artificial intelligence to transform biomedical research and improve health outcomes.
