Qiwen Hu received her PhD in Bioinformatics from North Carolina State University, where she studied translational regulation in plant genomes. Hu developed machine learning and statistical approaches based on high-throughput sequencing datasets to identify regulatory elements that affect transcription and translation, then continued to develop machine learning-based methods to extract regulatory signals from addicted brain and developmental tissues when worked at University Pennsylvania. She also worked on developing and evaluating deep learning model on single-cell datasets. At DBMI, she is expanding the research focus by integrating single-cell image, epigenetic and RNA-seq datasets to discover novel cell type patterns and regulatory elements from nascent brain and other tissues.
