Associate in Biomedical Informatics

Reza Shamji (rezashamji.github.io) graduated from Harvard University in 2025 with an A.B. in Computer Science and a minor in Economics. He is currently an Artificial Intelligence Research Associate in Biomedical Informatics in the Zitnik Lab, where he develops reasoning methods for large reasoning models. His current work focuses on advancing ways to incorporate relevant knowledge from external relational databases into these models to improve accuracy and reliability in high-stakes environments. These methods will be evaluated and deployed to clinicians in low middle income countries for support in medical decision making. Prior to joining the Zitnik Lab, he worked as a Machine Learning Research Engineer on the multimodal artificial intelligence team at the Kempner Institute for Natural & Artificial Intelligence (https://kempnerinstitute.harvard.edu/) under Professor Yilun Du (https://yilundu.github.io/) and Sham Kakade (https://shamulent.github.io/), where he focused on deepening understanding of vision language model capabilities
