Ichiro Ikuta, MD, MMSc

Master of Medical Science in Biomedical Informatics, Class of 2012
Biomedical Informatics Research Training Fellow, 2010-2012

Ichiro Ikuta is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Evidence-Based Imaging. His initial interest in imaging informatics started during his PGY-1 transitional year at Columbia University/Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital. "I was investigating imaging re-evaluations of pneumonia that had failed initial antibiotic therapy, and came across a very interesting journal article on patient radiation exposure from CT scans. As a BIRT fellow at the Center for Evidence-Based Imaging (CEBI), I use imaging informatics tools to research patient radiation exposures from nuclear medicine and interventional radiology." The goal of his research is to provide clinicians with effective decision support for appropriate imaging while maintaining patient radiation exposures as low as reasonably achievable. Ikuta also has an interest in neuroradiology and pulmonary/critical care imaging, eventually hoping to expand clinical imaging guidelines.
