Mujeeb Basit, MD, MMSc

Master of Medical Science in Biomedical Informatics, Class of 2016
Biomedical Informatics Research Training Fellow, 2014-2016

Mujeeb Basit is a Postdoctoral Fellow at The Division of Clinical Informatics. He began his career in computer science and worked at the Human Genome Project and the Dallas Heart Study, after which he trained in internal medicine and ultimately cardiology. "Throughout my medical training, I was excited about the potential of information technologies to enhance patient care. However, I increasingly became frustrated with the inadequacies of electronic medical record systems. Although there were a few well-executed processes, the vast majority of the implementations struggled to perform the basic tasks of medical care. These systems often impeded good medical care rather than improving it." Basit's current research interest is in clinical process improvement and facilitation via supportive electronic health records. He works on analysis of existing health record data to understand secondary benefits from existing drugs.
