Paul Varghese, MD, MMSc

Master of Medical Science in Biomedical Informatics, Class of 2016
Biomedical Informatics Research Training Fellow, 2014-2016

Paul Varghese is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Clinical and Quality Analysis. His interest is in improving the safety and efficacy of HIT. Prior to joining the MMSc in Biomedical Informatics program, Varghese worked in the HIT industry, where he encountered the practical challenges of designing and implementing clinical information systems, including interoperability, usability, and evaluating the risk associated with medical software as a regulated medical device. "This experience has shaped my research interests, with my primary focus on how we can improve the overall HIT safety by better categorizing HIT hazards and frequency of associated harm. Looking ahead, I hope to apply these insights to shape the perspective both clinicians and regulatory bodies as they evaluate HIT as a critical component in healthcare delivery."
