Mentor: Michael Baym, PhD

Lucy M. McCully, Ph.D. is a postdoctoral research fellow in Michael Baym's lab in the Department of Biomedical Informatics and the Laboratory of Systems Pharmacology at Harvard Medical School, working on experimental evolution approaches to studying antibiotic resistance in bacteria. McCully completed her MS and PhD at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, in Dr. Mark Silby's Lab. McCully researched the phenomenon of interspecies social spreading, where two distantly-related soil bacteria exhibit a group motility behavior, spreading together across a hard agar surface. During her graduate research, she studied environmental influences and factors underlying the behavior, as well as taking an experimental evolution approach to studying fast-spreading colonies.
